I'm thinking of applying for a copy of an ancestor's death cert. He died in 1878 and there is a rumour in the family that he committed suicide. Does anyone know whether this would be recorded as the cause of death if it were true?

Thanks I wasn't sure as to the level of detail at that time. I'll probably apply for the cert and see if we can clear up a family mystery!OLD SALIAN

If there was an inquest, you an then apply to the library reference section in the area the death happened. I have done this by e mail and they have found a newspaper report of the incident and the inquest and posted to me. In one case for free, the other for a minimal admin charge.
Fills out more detail. Good luck with it.Liz
