The Trotman Family 1568-2011

Rate this Entry
For several years I have not participated in the Family Tree Forum, firstly I find it very difficult to navigate also at the time that I first joined my family had a great mystery that needed to be solved.
It has taken me three years to solve this mystery and have now completed my family tree At the
moment I am not even sure that I am doing the correct thing to attract the attention of other members who may wish to share in my research and notes. However, after taking about 24 hours to sign in I can now tell everyone of my observations. I noticed the other day that there were people inquiring to Uncle John about the Trotman family and the time that they were in Sunderland. Uncle John correctly mentioned that the family had come from Gosport in Hants before Sunderland, but if its any help to those of you researching this family I can take you back to where it all began or should I say to where the oldest records have been found in 1568. My family history includes nearly one hanging of my ggg grandfather and just to make you all rush to the reply button, after 1838 biologically we are not Trotmans atall. All the records that I have prior to the start of the census in 1841 are all documented so there is no conjecture.

Welcome back to Family Tree Forum, Keith.

If you want to bring this to the attention of our members then it would probably be better to post it in our Research Qs & As forum - click here

Blogs are a good way of getting your information out on the world wide web - providing you have set the blog to be public then it will be picked up by search engines and may lead to contact from other researchers in the future.

Now you have found your way back to FTF, hope you are here to stay! Can you ever say "I have completed my family tree" - there is always something new out there, lurking somewhere!

Hi Elaine, I am trying to add family names to the Names Data Base. If I press the browse button it starts asking me to download a file. All I want to do is to add individual names by typing in their name and dates. Why carn't I do this?

    Just replied to your email!

Our names database has been designed to accept data in GEDCOM file format. You would therefore need to create a GEDCOM file from a family tree software program, regardless of whether you wish to add one name or a thousand.
Instructions on how to upload the GEDCOM can be found here:

    Hi Elaine,
Thanks for your imput, but I am afraid Gedcoms are not for me. I have so much info that I could contribute to the site, but its not to be.

    Regards keith Trotman.

Using the names database is not the only way of sharing your research names.

Take a look at the thread Your research names in our new Spotlight on Family Tree Forum
    - you might like to consider adding your names to the Ancestral Anniversaries section or our Surname Directory.
