  • Whitehouse relatives in Birmingham

My name is Derks Marie-Josee and i live in Belgium,my connection with the Whitehouse family is by my grandmother on my mothers side.
Her name was Violet Whitehouse and sche married a belgian soldier during WW1 in Birmingham,i am searching for her brother William born in 1897-1898.i do have a lot of information about the rest of the family going back to the years 1700.
If there is somebody who has any information about William please answer this message.
His parents were Benjamin Whitehouse and Emma(born Tyler).

    Thanks,

    Hi Derks,

William is at home aged 14 in the 1911 census - 82 Summer Lane, Birmingham. Also at home were sister Daisy aged 16 and sister Violet aged 11. Daisy was a paper box maker, father Benjamin a Nail Caster (my own grandfather was a nail caster in Birmingham), and mother Emma (who filled out the census form) was a florist and fruiterer. The area today is in a district known as Hockley. St George being the local parish church.

I wouldn't know anything of his later life, but at the start of WW1 he would have been 17, and therefore at some point he may have been in the forces himself. Have you tried looking for a military record.

Have also noted at time of census in 1911, Benjamin and Emma had been married 27 years and Emma had given birth to 10 children, by 1911 only 5 had survived.
