thanks for reply. yes there are heaps of william hickman's in london, and on re reading your post it would be a stretch to place him there. as he would have been in australia , but i thought maybe father with same name etc. oh well back to the drawing board!

Hi Chuz...The Battle of Waterloo was 1815 so your Wm Hickman would have been an adult by then so he was too old to be my gran's father.

I gave up with researching Wm Hickman in the end as there were so many in London. Also I seem to remember quite a few who married Elizabeth Sarah or Sarah Elizabeth too...

From my gran's marriage cert, he was possibly still alive in 1884 when he was a travelling salesman.

So, sorry, looks like this one isn't yours.

Xlnt!! Hope this is my William Hickman, he is married to a Sarah. I believe that my William was in the Kings Regiment and was at the Battle of Waterloo and later migrated to Australia. I have his travel box and a few other things. I am working blind as I haven't his birth date.
