  • ScotlandsPeople - October 2011 Update

I received this circular today: ~
    Census Street Lists

The Census Street Lists for the main towns and cities have now been added to the site for all census years. These free-to-view books are an excellent research tool and can be used to locate streets and find which enumeration books cover a particular area. In most instances the registration district is also provided. This is an excellent resource for finding who lived at a particular address without searching on a name.

To view the census street lists, please click here: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Co...spx?r=551&2094.

    The Dundee Science Festival

The Dundee Science Festival (http://www.dundeesciencefestival.org...full.php?id=57) takes place on Sunday 6 November.

The Festival includes a special event on genealogy, which will be attended by experts from brightsolid online publishing. They will be able to offer advice, suggestions and tips to anyone who is looking to find out more about their family history, as well as helping those whose research appears to have reached a dead end.

The ScotlandsPeople Team will also be there to offer demos of how the website works, as well as giving help and advice about the best ways to use online records to trace family ancestors who lived in Scotland.

The event is FREE to attend and runs from 11.30am to 5pm, with hourly talks taking place on the hour between 12 noon and 4pm. You don’t need to book a place, so you can just turn up on the day.

The location for this event is the DC Thomson Building at Meadowside, Albert Square, Dundee (directly opposite the statue of Robert Burns).

    The 50+ Show

We’ll also be attending the 50+ Show (http://www.50plusshow.com/glasgow/glasgow.htm) at the SECC in Glasgow on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 November. Although we’ll be including further details about this event in the next newsletter, we mention it now because you can save yourself the £10 admission charge and get free admission if you register at the 50+ website before Thursday 10 November.
