Kent Family History Society Announce New Journal Award (22.10.11)

‘The Alan Neame Annual Journal Awards’

At the Society’s 37th Annual General Meeting and Conference at Chartham, on Saturday the 22nd October 2011, the motion put forward by the current Kent FHS Editor, Alan Makey, for the above award, was duly carried.

Alan Makey’s proposal was that a new award in the name of the first Kent FHS Editor, Alan Neame, and a late President of the Society, should be remembered with prizes for the best article in the society’s Journal, in the preceding year. (September to June).

There is no special criteria for articles. Members of the Society will be invited to vote on what they thought was the most interesting and informative submission in their view.

Voting by members will take place in June each year. A list of articles that are eligible will be printed in the June Journal and members will be invited to vote for their ‘favourite article’ by either e-mail or post.

The Prizes for this Journal Award have been approved at the 37th AGM and will be:
    1st £100.00
    2nd £75.00
    3rd £50.00
    4th £25.00

Prizes will be awarded annually at the AGM in October, by the current KFHS President or Chairman.

Alan Makey was delighted that his motion was accepted, and said; ‘I am hoping that this new Journal Award, will encourage more members to submit quality articles for the Journal, and will remember with warmth and affection our first Editor, Alan Neame who set the standard in 1974 and for all those Editor’s who have followed him.’
