  • 1841 help please?

Can anyone find this family in 1841?

In 1851 Charles Stevens says he was born c 1809 at Isle of Wight,Emsworth
with wife Mary aged 40, children Leonora 13, Elizabeth Ann 10,Francis G. 8,Earnest T 6 & Cornelius F. 6 months. Children born Freshwater. In 1861 Charles says he was born Near Chichester,Surrey.(should be Sussex)

In 1851 with her Uncle, William Stevens,is a Henriette Stevens aged 15 b Freshwater,Isle of Wight. Is this another child of Charles & Mary?

Trying to confirm if I have the correct Charles Stevens.

    Thanks
    Kerri

Hi Kerri - they have been transcribed as STEPHESS

in the parish of Freshwater - @ Freshwater Mile Hampshire District 8

Charles is 30 and a miller
    Mary 30
    Harriott 5
Leonard 4 (this should be Leonora)
    William 2

    Benjamin Smith 15

If you haven't already found it, then I would recommend this site for your future research:

        Christine
Researching: BENNETT (Leics/Birmingham-ish) - incl. Leonard BENNETT in Detroit & Florida ; WARR/WOR, STRATFORD & GARDNER/GARNAR (Oxon); CHRISTMAS, RUSSELL, PAFOOT/PAFFORD (Hants); BIGWOOD, HAYLER/HAILOR (Sussex); LANCASTER (Beds, Berks, Wilts) - plus - COCKS (Spitalfields, Liverpool, Plymouth); RUSE/ROWSE, TREMEER, WADLIN(G)/WADLETON (Devonport, E Cornwall); GOULD (S Devon); CHAPMAN, HALL/HOLE, HORN (N Devon); BARRON, SCANTLEBURY (Mevagissey)...

As an example of what you can find that way...

birth reg: 1850 STEVENS, Cornelius John, mmn= THEOBALD District=Calbourne

          The IGI has this marriage:
1 JUL 1835 Saint Thomas, Portsmouth
          CHARLES STEVENS & MARY THEOBALD
          batch: M062512

You can then go back to the IoW site, BDM births, and put STEVENS in as surname and THEOBALD as other surname, and then you get a whole list of names from 1839 to 1852!

There are also some deaths of young STEVENSes, which look as if they might match that first list. Cornelius John Theobald STEVENS, aged 4, died in 1851 in Calbourne District, for example.

From post #1, Emsworth is near Chichester, not on the Isle of Wight.
