i thought i would take a fresh look into james conway my butler in 1871. well i found a james conway b.1848, barking essex, in a tavern in the woolwich arsenal in kent. occupation potman. the others in the tavern are servants of some kind and a cook. what was a potman? would the tavern have hired him? would it be some kind of butler?
