Can anyone suggest what this couple were playing at?
19 Aug 1774 John Covell marries Sarah Wood at St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey
17 November 1774 John Covell marries Sarah Bevois Wood at St Mary Rotherhithe.
Both marriages were by licence, not banns.
I think these have to be the same couple: John Covell was a sail-maker at Rotherhithe and there are a couple of notices about him in the London Gazette.
I can't find a baptism record for Sarah BEVOIS Wood anywhere. Is it likely they had to go through the marriage ceremony a second time because the first time missed out her middle name? Surely the vicar would just have made an amendment in the register? It shouldn't have been necessary to marry again in a different church.
I'm confused!
