  • Irish help - Ancestry?

Started on my wifes family tree, looks like they left Scotland for Ireland then returned to Scotland. Have found her gg/father's marriage notice and know he had six children, but can only find births for two of them in Ireland using LDS. Have sent away for copies of certs. The other children were all born in Ireland (Portglenone area in Antrim), can anybody point me to another site that may be of help. The records are not on line at PRONI so was hoping they may be somewhere else, Ancestry?
If the records are not on LDS does that mean they are not recorded at PRONI? Would a visit to Belfast sometime still be worthwhile?

This site is now transcribing BMDs although not all places have been done yet. It is ongoing at the moment, but I was lucky to find my Great Grandmother's baptism which proved I had found the correct family earlier.

This Irish Government supported, official web site, is dedicated to helping you in your search for records of family history for past generations.

PLEASE SCAN AT 300-600 DPI FOR RESTORATION PURPOSES. THANK YOU!

Thanks Wendy, had a look but it does not cover Antrim at the moment. Will save for the future,

Have you tired this site http://www.rootsireland.ie/
I used a chap who does look up at PRONI for about £2 each which is brilliant if it saves going to Belfast! I'll dig out his details as I can't put my hand on them just at the moment.

I've also used this site and the people on there are very helpful http://www.belfastforum.co.uk/index.php?board=20.0
I see that someone asked for a lookup and they got a reply!

Thanks Margaret, will give this one a try. The rootsireland site only has RC baptisms for my area, I know that they were presbyterians of some sort.

I've replied to your PM and would also say mine were Presbyterian too and when I asked the church in Lisburn for some information the lady there very kindly went into Belfast and looked up the parish records for me - quite unexpected and very very generous!

Here's the site for BMD look ups http://www.familyulster.com/ it doesn't mention the £2 service but I suggest you email and say what you want and see what they will do.
