Hello all

Can somebody please do me a favour and find a Henry Webb born c1839 in Abingdon Berks on the 1861 census please.

I would just like to know who he is living with and if he has joined the Army yet.

Many thanks

Danny

I wonder if he's the Henry Web ... born abt 1839 Oxfordshire.

Abingdon is now in Oxfordshire and has always been on the Berks/Oxon border.

This Henry is living in Islington, Middx working as a Servant (Ostler) ... the family's name is Hands ... Head of household is Charles Hands ... aged abt 33 born in Oxford ... Cab Proprietor

It looks like no 1 Gordon Yard Cottage

Hi Danny

There is a Henry on FindMyPast: RG9 Piece1097 Folio 116 Page 25 which records him as a Private/Army residing at St Botloph, Coldchester, Essex. He was born in Reading, Berkshire in 1837.

Is this your man??

Kind regards

Gwyn

Thankyou for that Rachel:)

I would have expected him to be around the Oxford area still and if not then atleast somewhere in the forces.

Time to see if I can locate the marriage.

Hi Oscar

Does it by chance say which regiment he is with? As the first sign of him was in the 67th Regiment of Foot.

Hi Brian

Im not sure if thats my Henry as Im yet to determine siblings of his. Thankyou for that though as I will take note of them and keep it in case.

Danny, all I can make out is 'Support Battalion' - sorry, not a great deal of help!

Can I amend that, after a closer look at the FindMyPast image - looks more like '9 Depot Battalion' - just to add to the confusion..........

:) My paternal gt gt grandfather was born there but I've only visited it once. It certainly looked interesting but it was too hot to go adventuring so we ended up in a discount shop and bought a bath mat :D
