bitmap pic to JPEG ? How do I do it please ?

I started off with a JPEG pic, then took a chunk of it out.........when I save it, it switches to a bitmap.

How do I switch it back to a JPEG ?

I want to upload the cut pic.

open it up (the picture) and do a 'Save as' and when the box pops up select the correct format in which to save it.
