If I can't find a marriage about 1830 on Family search is there anywhere else I could look other than going to the parish please?
Matthew Fox married a Mary (both born Kirkby in Ashfield Notts c1811), their first child William was born K-in-A c 1831. No sign on famil search.
I hope someone comes up with an answer for you Chrissie, I've just about given up on my Kirkby lot!

Goodness me, I didn't realise what time it was. Off to bed now - this will wait until another time:)
Sure I've told you before Chrissie.
My main family, my maiden name Barker, are from there. My 2x gt grandfather b c 1801, left there to join the army.
Chrissie, you don't think that they may have skipped the county for a sneaky, late wedding, do you?
Just that there is a marriage in 1835 for Matthew Fox to Mary Lambeth, but it was at Christ Church, Blackfriars Rd, which I assume would be in Southwark. (I don't know if there is another in Notts)
I looked for Matthew Fox on 1841 census and there are only 4 listed for the whole country who are of the right age...3 in Yorkshire & your fellow in Notts. And yours is the only one married to a Mary.

Chrissie, I think there is somebody who may be able to check on a marriage index for Notts - would you like me to put Notts in your thread title so that person might be more likely to notice it?
By the way, I do lookups at Notts Archives but if you don't know which church and date you want I wouldn't really know where to start looking!

Of course Viv, I do remember now:)
Thanks Lynn - I did see that marriage but discounted it as London. I didn't think to check on any other Mather Fox though. I suppose it's a possibilty.
Thank you Kite. Yes, Notts in the title would be good. There was a chap who used to be on GR who called himself Robin Hood who had a disc to look up Notts marriages. I wonder if he is a member here? You are right about the Archives, I have no idea where/when/if they married so that would be hopeless. That's why I wondered if there was anywhere on line. This isn't for me, it's for a friend, so I don't want to go to a lot of expense. She is a dear old lady in her 80's though and is so thrilled about anything I find, especially any juicy bits:)
Chrissie, Have a look at this site.....someone is researching William Fox, who could be Matthew's brother. If so, they may be able to help you. Worth a try anyway.

p.s. I have also put it in my favourites because there are two of my family names on there as well:)
Oh, great! That's made my night!
Good luck!
I'm away to bed now!

Goodnight Lyn:)
I hope she's off to sleep, I don't want to spoil her night but I've just received one of those Demon failure to deliver notices for the e-mail that I sent to the one researching Fox:(
Darn & Drat!!!
Havny got to bed yet! LOL!!

Thank you Pippa. It certainly isn't important enough to trouble anyone who is poorly though. Whoever they are, I hope they get well soon:)

well, I have had a look on Hugh wallis,
and this is the only matthew showing on there, (and these are extracted recs)
MATTHEW FOX/SARAH HICKIN (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/igi/individual_record.asp?recid=500142676009&lds=1®ion=2&frompage=1) 07 DEC 1822 Kirkby In Ashfield, Nottingham, England.
there is a william fox marrying a MARY ROLLINSON (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/igi/individual_record.asp?recid=500142676800&lds=1®ion=2&frompage=1) 23 DEC 1822 @KIA

Thanks so much for looking Julie. I got really excited then and thought it must be the Mary Rollinson one and I have Rollinson in my tree, so I thought my friends and I might be related. However, on looking at the date 1822, Matthew/Mathew would only have been about 11. So it looks like it's back to the drawing board for that marriage. Mind you, I have printed your findings off as they are very likely to be other members of the family.
Thank you again:)

Matthew Fox married Mary Coleman 7/2/1831 Kirkby in Ashfield.
I have Nottingham BMD's on CD if you want any more info.
Oooo Wendy, you couldn't sort out my Barkers for me could you?
I've been toying with the idea of buying the cds but having just cleared out my bank account with a new to me car I've had to put it on the back burner.

Let me know who you are looking for and I'll see what I can find. Please remember though that not all parishes are covered.
You're a gem Wendy!
I'm just about to have my dinner so thenI'll sort it all out & get back to you.
It's Kirkby in Ashfield I'm after!

Vivienne I have looked for Barkers in Kirkby in Ashfield, but I am afraid I cannot find any!!! Sorry. Why some of Kirkby in Ashfield's records are on the CD and not others I do not know.
Oh Wendy! Great news for Chrissie! She will be thrilled. Wonder where she is!

Oh Wendy, you're a gem, thank you. I take it that you have ancestors from Notts. If I can ever return the favour with a photograph of anything just let me know.

I'm here Lyn - you'll be able to sleep tonight now lol:))
Thanks for looking Wendy,
I've just been trying to put things in some sort of order & realise just how sloppy my recording of stuff has been.
I'm sure everything I have found has been on the IGI but I haven't made any notes to that effect. I've tied gt grandfather William to a couple who were married in St Marys Nottingham & a whole bunch of siblings but how can I be sure this is right.
I've also got back another couple of generations but when I looked at the IGI recently I couldn't find them.
One of these days I'll have to get up to Notts RO & try & sort it out myself.
I'm here Lyn - you'll be able to sleep tonight now lol:))
I just got up!! LOL!:D:D

Oops - I think I may have got my time differences mixed up :o:D
I think there are people who go to the Notts RO Viv who may be kind enough to look for you. I would offer to go myself but I think it may be in the middle of Nottingham and I wouldn't know where to start. If you ever want any photographs though:)

that might be because of the fire?? and some records were lost in said fire (St wilfreds) that is..

I've just been looking on BT Viv to see if there were any Barkers in Kirkby-in-Ashfield but there aren't. There are a few in Sutton-in-Ashfield and surrounding areas though. Do you think there may be any still living?

Vivienne
It might be worth trying Freereg as it has transcribed lots of Baptism for St Marys Church Nottingham but I'm not sure about marriages. Also gives addresses as well.

Is this the curse of the IGI submitted records, I wonder.
I've now found my file with loads of baptisms in Kirkby & a couple of marriages.

Wendy and Viv - as I said, just let me know if I can take any photographs of anything for you. Preferably after I get the decs up though:)

Sorry Chrissie I missed your post before. I haven't even tried to trace them forward, I want to be sure I've found the right family first.
There were definitely Barkers there in 1841/51 & the two death certs I have for 1851/59 both died in Kirkby.

I'm not really following everything on this thread completely after a few beers, but Vivienne, if you want something looked up at Notts Archives, just ask! If it's a quick one then I might be able to fit it in next week but if it's going to take longer then it would have to be after the school holidays.
